The Problem of Chronological Synchronization of Early-Medieval Skeletal Burial Grounds in Bohemia and North-Eastern Bavaria

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

This contribution is a product of long-term research performed by the universities of Prague and Bamberg into the regions of Cheb and the north-eastern Upper Pfalz. Research into the history of settlements there has shown discrepancies in the chronology of the early-medieval burial grounds.

The author belives that the current state of the source base does not allow this problem to be resolved at the level of absolute chronology. Using the burial grounds in the Cheb and Upper Pfalz regions as the least of examples, he demonstrates the absence of a hiatus in the development of S-shaped headdress decorations indicated by the results of earlier research
