Abstract

The article deals with contemporary contexts of the Croce’s concept „expression”, especially in visual art and in art education. Expression is distinguished from evocation.

On this base, with respect to Russell’s identification of “knowledge by acquaintance” and “knowledge by description” and on a background of a world building as the process of constructing a fictional world, the article distinguishes between “expression” and “description” and explains these dual concepts as a counterparts and a resource for better understanding of the role of art subjects in general education.
