The aim of this paper is to improve the cooperation between diabetologists and ophthalmologists to avoid diabetis retinopathy and its complications. In patients with the diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) an ophthalmological examinatgion should be indicated by a diabetgologistg or a general practitioner immediately after the diagnosis.
In patients with the diabetes type 1 (DM1) with advanced nonproliferative or proliferative diabetic retinopathy the laserpanretinophotocoagulation is indicated. This method can prevent serious complications of the proliferative diabetic retinopathy for the visual acuity.
