Outline of the theoretical–sociological approach to the question of historical consciousness

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

In this text the authors distinguish two entities, historical consciousness and collective memory. Historical consciousness is shaped by the interplay of four components, which are: historical experience, ideology, historical science and collective memory.

The role of these components is explained by means of the AGIL scheme developed by Talcott Parsons. Historical consciousness and collective memory are interpreted as interconnected systems from this theoretical perspective.
