The Basque language is a modern European language, fully integrated within the context of other European languages. From a historical point of view it is an isolated language with possible relations to the Caucasian languages, the Berber languages and perhaps also to the Iberian language.
The linguistic influence of the Indo-European languages manifests itself principally in its Lexicon, but we can also observe a convergent approximation in its grammatical categories. This article intends to draw attention to the possible Indo-Europeanisation of Standard Basque (euskara batua) and postulates a distinction between its Pre-Romance traits and the Indo-Europeanised ones.
