Radiobarites from the Cenozoic volcanic region of the Bohemian Massif: radiochemical study, history, and lead isotopic composition

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2010

Abstract

A specific, radium bearing type of barites from the Eger Rift, a region of Cenozoic volcanic activity in northwestern Bohemia, Czech Republic, have been studied by low background high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry and alpha track method on a crystal plate. In a lead fraction isolated from the barites, concentration and isotopic composition of lead were determined by photon activation analysis and ICP MS, respectively.

The radioactivity of the radiobarites has been caused solely by 226Ra in surface layers or along cracks younger than 10–15 thousand years.
