The Elbe River Salmon in Historical Records and at Present I.

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2010

Abstract

The introductory part of the contribution deals with the early history of the Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) populations as well as with the historical records on its presence in the Czech part of the Elbe River basin. It quotes a historical description from an important Renaissance book Historia animalis, written by Georg Handsch von Limuz.

It also describes the construc-tion of dikes - transverse barriers obstructing the run of salmons to their breeding grounds.
