Abstract
This article deals with the current demographic situation in Europe and characterizes the position of Europe in relation to the other continents. The main emphasis is focused on a description of differences between Western and Eastern European countries, in terms of basic demographic characteristics and reproductive behaviour.
The final section introduces the importance of minority groups in European countries, especially in Germany and France.
