"Stepping-Staircase": Learning environment for negative numbers

Abstract

The chapter focuses on a learning environment which fulfils the requirements placed by Wittmann on "substantial learning environment". The environments "Stepping" and "Staircase" are elaborated for the teaching of negative numbers.

Experience with pupils is described.
