Bullied teachers and their defensive options acquired through professional training

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2010

Abstract

The article covers one of paradoxes of our time. Teachers, who are supposed to help and protect children, often become targets of pupils’ unscrupulous attacks.

The situation may go to such an extent that a protector becomes a victim bullied by his/her “protégé”. The article tries to open up a discussion concerning this phenomenon of contemporary schooling.

One of possible solutions could be found, among other things, in entrance examinations at faculties of education, in the pedagogical preparation of prospective teachers for their work, in the content and manner of university graduation as well as in so called teacher mentoring. With respect to the problem of pupils’ inappropriate behaviour towards their teachers close attention is paid to so called clinical school.
