The paper informs about graphs in physics education. The introductory part is focused on the presentation of graphs in a wider context.
Within the second part typical students’ mistakes with graphing are mentioned. The review of mistakes is mainly based on two original researches.
About 600 Czech students have participated in each of these researches (age 13-18y). The third part presents tasks which were designed for graphing support.
More than 50 percent of students (altogether tasks were addressed to 150 Czech students) participated in the competition. The set of tasks is intended for 12-16 years old pupils and focused on choice of scales, sense of slope, or area under the line of graph.
Each task contains several questions, which should help students to get right answer. At the end of each task students have to express by several words what was according to them the main aim of the task.
It works as simple but effective feedback. One whole task from the set is presented as an example.
