In the context of the contemporary globalized world, which is characterized by weakening of the local ties, it is very important to orient environmental education to creating relationships not only with the nature, but especially with the home. The Local rootage – or one's identification with the home place – plays a key role in taking care of the environment.
Such education should then be accompanied by intercultural education – not only to build respect to other cultures and to prevent chauvinistic ethnocentrism, but also to build understanding both of the value of one's own culture and also of the fact that the authentic culture is that which arises out of the local conditions.
