Proxy analytical methods (X-ray fluorescence spectroscopic analysis, cation exchange capacity, magnetic susceptibility measurement) and radiocarbon dating were used for facial description, stratigraphic correlation and dating of the floodplain sediments of the Morava River near Strážnice. The proxy methods were validated by conventional tools (granulometry, ICP-MS element analysis).
The work had two aims: to develop very productive geochemical analytical methods suitable for large series of floodplain sediments and to apply them to describe the changes in the aggradation rate in the last millennium.
