The study describes the IPQ-R questionnaire which is the most widely used tool for assessing patients´ conceptions of illness abroad. It describes the development of the Czech version with a set of 345 patients aged 16–88 years.
Factor structure of the Czech version does´t differ from the English version in the number of factors. However, it differs in the content, as in the Czech version the following seven factors were formed: 1.Nature of the illness (acute-chronic) and its prognosis from the view of patient 2.Negative aspects of the illness (consequences of the disease and experiencing them), 3.Chance to control the course of illness both by patient and by treatment, 4.Impossibility of controlling the course of illness either by patient or by treatment, 5.Patient not understanding the illness, 6.Changes in the course of illness up to its cyclical course. 7.Strong negative emotions caused by illness.
The results are compared with those of translations of the IPQ-R questionnaire into other languages.
