Patient´s Conception of Illness and Educational Process

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2010

Abstract

The review study determines how much an educational process that takes into account the patient´s personality, patient´s needs and his behaviour at illness respects the patient´s own opinion on the illness. It tries to find out in what extent the education is individualized with respect to patients´ different opinions on the same disease.

The study raises the question to which phase of the educational process it is possible to incorporate the patient´s conception of the illness. The response is: the patient´s conception of illness should become a part of the complex of investigated data about the patient, i.e. the part of the first phase of the educational process.

It points also out that it is the patient´ s subjective conception of illness that affects his/her educational needs.
