News Coverage of Environmental topics

Abstract

The paper gives a brief insight into the issue of news coverage of environmental topics. Based on the assumption that both object of interest, the environment, and the process of its mediation, the news, are socially constructed, and thus they reflect the social and cultural contexts and their dynamics.

Thus, the news about the environment is not and cannot be an "objective depiction", but it is a subject to a number of factors: ranging from the general ones, such as the dominant values of given society, and ending with the specific pressure and routines, which the media in their everyday work are subjected to.
