SPATIAL ASPECTS OF SOCIAL INEQUALITY: CZECHIA IN THE CONTEXT OF CENTRAL-EAST EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

Abstract

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of social inequalities with special attention to their geographical dimension. In the first part of the thesis, theoretical approaches are discussed as well as general regularities typical for geographical distributions.

A chapter dealing with possibilities of inequality measuring follows. It focuses especially on quantification of a geographical dimension of social inequality.

Morover, selected methods are tested through statistical “modelling” aiming at better understanding and better interpretation of these methods. Methodological analysis is followed by very detailed empirical analysis in Czechia and selected neighbouring countries.

The majority of all analyses is performed on very detailed geographical levels, in Czechia is one subchapter devoted even to an analysis of individual data. In the conclusion, hypotheses from the beginning of the thesis are discussed.
