Burnout syndrome, selected psychological variables, and risk factors of cardiovascular diseases

Abstract

he paper describes the design, realization, and results of prospectively designed two-wave study the goal of which was to verify the potential connections of burnout, selected psychosocial characteristics and main known risks of cardiovascular diseases in the sample of economicaly active Czech men and women. A part of the project was the intervention oriented to lower the incidence of risk factors of cardiovascular diseases and burnout syndrome.

The next aim of the project was to assess the influence of education in subjects on decreasing the risks of cardiovascular diseases (and burnout). The sample (78 persons, 64 women, 14 men; mean age 48,4; SD 11,6; minimum age 22, maximum age 67) was acquired by addressing the Czech and abroad firms, companies, and institutions.

The changes in biochemical variables due to the intervention, the decrease of global cholesterol and LDL cholesterol can be considered as a very positive finding.
