Libenice – a phenomenological research of Middle Neolithic landscape

Abstract

In the article, I am presenting phenomenology or anthropology of landscape on the example of the landscape surrounding Libenice, a Stroked Pottery culture site as archaeological data interpretation possibility. This landscape is typical with a great visibility and sites intervisibility.

Stroked Pottery culture sites are bar none located on the top of the flatland, rarely on a very gentle slope. They are are both exposed to a eyeview and weather, although hidden locations can be found in there, and later cultures inhabit them.

A special feature of the settlements in this landscape is a relation arising from the confrontation of flatland and mountain (Kaňk Hills). Vertical dimension – the mountain wins a basic, dominating significance in the organization of the human space.

The interest in the vertical line is proved also by the results of the phenomenological research.
