Josef Pekařand his attitude towards religious revolution at the outset of Czechoslovakia

Publication at Catholic Theological Faculty |
2007

Abstract

In the first years of Czechoslovakia a number of celebrities was thinking of a religious revolution in order to lead a majority of the people away from the Catholic Church. The emergent Czechoslovak Church tried to fulfill this ambition.

The paper studies the attitudes of a Czech historian, Josef Pekař, towards these activities. The centre of its interest is Pekař's argumentation why he rejects the new church and the entire movement, although he criticizes the Catholic Church and does not intend to defend her position in the Czech society.
