Abstract
The House of God and the Gate of Heaven. Jacob´s dream of the ladder may have originally been the Israelite version of Bethel aitiology.
Aside the essential theological message, the story mentions some typical elements in the ancient sanctuary as evidenced in the Eastern Mediterranean and in Egypt from pre-literary period, such as temenos, stele, steps, altar, house of God.
