Abstract

This chapter deals with the Franz Kafka conference held in Liblice, Czechoslovakia, in 1963. It highlights the public importance of this event.

The conference brought about a new perception of Franz Kavka and his work. Moreover, it had an indisputable impact on the political and cultural life in communist Czechoslovakia of the 1960s in that it contributed to reviving freedom of intellectual and artistic expression.
