The stranger at your gates : the Biblical impulses for ethical reflection of migration

Publication |
2010

Abstract

The study describes biblical view on the question of receiving strangers. The text falls into two parts: First, the basic biblical texts concerning the topic are presented; this includes a brief exegesis and interpretation of the relevant passages.

A synthesis of the fundamental biblical theological views and conclusions is given. Secondly, the relevant biblical anthropological topics concerning the theology of creation are introduced (above all the human dignity and the idea of „totus orbis“ – i. e. the universality of humankind).

Since the presented biblical reflection can also be regarded as a part of theological ethical reflection of the phenomenon, the introduction to this study briefly reflects the nexus of biblical hermeneutics and Christian social ethics.
