Language education in Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden and the Czech Republic

Abstract

The paper presents further results of the solution to the second aim stated in the project of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Centre for Basic Research on Schooling in the years 2006-2010. The first part of the paper describes official language teaching as a mother tongue and teaching indigenous minorities, the second part deals with foreign language teaching.

Finally, the presented problems are put into the context of the language policy of the Council of Europe.
