Both the international situation and the domestic course of events in the Federal Republic of Germany in the mid-1960s significantly changed as compared to the preceding decade. The article analyses the policy of CDU/CSU towards the countries of the Eastern bloc and primarily to the German Democratic Republic during the Ludwig Erhard Government (during the years 1963-1966) and answers the question how did the CDU/CSU react to the changes in the international politics and to the political development in the FRG in its policy towards the East.
