Abstract
The analysis of Burns'' Tam O''Shanter and Love and Liberty and Byron''s Beppo focuses on the close links between Bakhtin''s "carnivalesque" and utopia in Burns and, in Byron''s case, on the "carnivalesque" as a foundation for the performativity of a literary text.
