Abstract

This article deals with the problematics of media content analyses counting numbers of women and men present in news both as subjects and producers. Building upon a critique of the methodology and conclusions of one example of such research, the Global Media Monitoring Project 2010, it points to the empirical and theoretical inconsistency in gender media studies and presents short discussion on the possibility to combine feminist activism with scientific responsibility.
