The study deals with measuring and evaluating the quality of the contents of modern collectively created encyclopedic works. Introductory parts provide a definition of freely available encyclopedic works and basic typology and possibilities of classification of encyclopedic works in general with focus on freely available internet encyclopedias.
The next part, which is introduced with the basic outline of the typology of research approaches to the quality of the content of Wikipedia, provides a summary of approaches and results of selected international studies measuring and evaluating the quality of the content of Wikipedia. Own research part and its results are contained in Chapter 7.
It deals with measuring and evaluating the quality of the content of articles about information science in the Czech, Slovak, English and German language versions of Wikipedia and related content, too. The main used method is quantitative (bibliometric) analysis.
