Abstrakt
Review of Louis Schwartz, Milton and Maternal Mortality. The first section (about one third of this somewhat repetitive monograph) is a historicist study of childbirth and obstetric practice in early modern England and the pain and anxieties that these generated.
The other two parts are descriptive and relate the outlined childbed concerns to Milton''s selected early poems and to Paradise Lost.
