Calisto''s character is interesting from the standpoint of the psychological study of his personality. Since the young lover pretends to appear as a better man than he is, we can see his desire in the sense that he wants to be "other" than he is.
He sees himself as an idealized lover, but he is quite the opposite. This lack of coherence can be applied to the whole group he represents in the work.
