Interesting relation between the experiences of altered states of consciousness (ASC) and their descriptions exists. It is a multilevel relationship.
It may be viewed as a relation between a direct experience and its interpretation; between a content of an experience and its set and setting; between emic and etic aspects of anthropological research; between the rationality of an "ego-centric" scientist and the "rationality" of multidimensional states of consciousness; or between objectivity of description and the transformational nature of ASC.
