This is a volume of selected papers honouring Gert Sabidussi. In June 2009 we organized a conference (Algebraic Graph Theory 2009) celebrating Gert''s eightieth birthday.
It took place at the Inter-University Centre, in the beautiful medieval city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. We have included selected papers from the conference, as well as a few other solicited contributions related to Gert''s work.
We are very pleased by the positive response to our invitations, clearly a tribute to Gert''s reputation in the field of algebraic graph theory, and the lasting impact of his contributions. The topics covered by this volume reflect the breadth and variety of Gert''s interests, and of his past and present activities.
His pioneering contributions had profound influence on the study of graph automorphism groups, graph homomorphisms, infinite graphs, graph products, cancellation properties, and many other aspects of algebraic graph theory. His keen curiosity also led him to ask questions about games on graphs, the history of graph theory, and relations of graph theory with other parts of mathematics.
We have included contributions respecting these interests.
