Tourism as a Tool Used in Fighting Social Exclusion

Publication |
2011

Abstract

The article deals with the topic of social exclusion and its relation to tourism. It''s based on the assumption that tourism is beneficial for everyone who have the chance of making use of tourism offers and services.

At the same time it stresses the fact that exercising everyone''s right to tourism - this being so frequently emphasised- is, without any help, disputable at least, considering socially handicapped and disabled persons. Subsequently it inquires into the concept of social exclusion and its transformation during time stressing its multidimensional character.

Finally, possible social responses in favour of the excluded from social tourism are presented and a number of foreign-research-based examples of the benefits of the responses are mentioned, as well.
