Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2011

Abstract

The aim of the article is to describe the ophthalmological problems common in premature children. The main cause of eye disorders is the retinopathy of premature infants (ROP) and neurological diseases.

The prematurity increases the risk of refractive errors, amblyopia, strabismus, electroretinography changes and decreases contrast sensitivity. Visual field narrowing was detected in children after ROP cryotherapy treatment.

Brain demage can lead to a visual loss described as a central visual impairment.
