White or black - or how to choose the right quartzite!

Abstract

This paper is devoted to stone materials for the production of chipped industry in prehistoric Bohemia. In the files from the archaeological excavations is also represented by quartzite of the Notrh-West Bohemia in three main types - Tušimice, Skršín and Bečov.

The latter type was previously known in classical white variety, but during the analysis of the collection of chipped industry from the neolithic site Chotěbudice, Distr. of Louny two specimens prepared from the black variety were found in one pit. Author of this paper found this black variety in the area of the defunct quarry in Bečov, but not in the prehistoric materials yet...
