Abstract

The battle of Lützen was a part of the series of conflicts known as the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), in which the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus defeated the Empire army of Albrecht von Wallenstein. However, the Swedish king died during the battle, the Wallenstein''s defeat was not so decisive.

The death of the leader of the Protestant party enabled the Catholics to restore their balance a regain some of the losses Gustavus Adolphus had caused them.
