Abstract
The article points at the lack of objectivity of the up-to date analyses of the category of diminutivity that were concerned mainly about the word formation and structure analysis rather than using dictionaries and nowadays the corpora as well. The source of up-to date problems with the description of diminutivity is being identified and the possibilities and limitations of the dictionary information (on the case of frequency dictionaries and statistical data on the corpus material), which can contribute to clarifying of the disputable moments.
Diminutivity is being mentioned as a lexicographical phenomenon in the explanatory and bilingual dictionaries.
