Abstract

Detection of the bone metastases belongs among the important problems of the staging in prostatic, breast and lung carcinoma and also others malignancies. The detection of the increased osteoblastic activity helps to assess the presence of bone metastatic disease including the monitoring of the disease activity. 18F-NaF-PET/CT becomes the alternative method to the bone scintigraphy in patients with suspected or present bone metastases dissemination.

Thanks to the physical and physiological behavior, 18 F shows the better bio-distribution parameters within the tissues especially in bone compared to 99mTc-methylendifosfonate. The review summarizes the potential of 18F-NaF-PET/CT as an alternative method to bone scintigraphy.
