Abstract
The paper deals with ways in which students (beginners) in selected textbooks of Czech for Foreigners familiarize with the roles of speaker and addressee and their functions. Attention is paid to the using of the polite form of address with regard to the pragmatic aspects of communication.
The research is based on the analysis and comparison of grammatical explanations, model dialogues and exercises.
