Critical review of a book by an important contemporary Jewish theologian deals with the possibilities of authentic theology in the Modern times. The author shows that Fishbane who departs from the thought of Martin Buber, strives for an authentic theology.
However, he does not address the most fundamental problem of all religious systems in modernity - the non-belief. Since Fishbane does not address the problem of belief (and non-belief), his theology is not more than an interesting interpretation of religion from the position of Conservative Judaism.
