Abstract

The chapter presents results of focused research of the sculptural production in Cheb at the end of Middle Ages. The artistic center in Cheb showed - especially since c. 1450 - undoubtedly distinctive character and managed to come out soon from the category of artistic periphery.

We see deep inner logic in the production, which corresponds to the vitality a self-consciousness of the prosperous late medieval city. Preferring of conservative styles is seen as a symptom of relatively short continuous tradition.
