The study discusses disparities between boys'' and girls'' reading abilities and readership. The author reports that boys earn lower scores on international reading literacy tests (PISA 2009,PIRLS) than girls at all OECD states, but the fastest decrease is just in the Czech Republic.
The author questions whether the gap reflects differences in social or in natural reasons, and explores options for making boys more interested in reading and general improvement in reading. The work also aims at the teacher''s role in supporting struggling readers (esp. boys).
