Virtual Containment instead of synthetic a priori as an explanation of the possibility of metaphysics

Abstract

The article shows that the common (Kantian-positivist) arguments against the possibility of metaphysics are unsound; nevertheless, there is a genuine problem in the traditional Aristotelian conception of metaphysical knowledge. The article points out a solution of these problems based on the scholastic notion of virtual containment.
