The aim of the paper was to estimate the attitude of children with intellectual disabilities towards physical education and sport. 59 pupils(20 girls and 39 boys, mean age 13.85 years) from Prague basic practical schools and 26 pupils (12 girls and 14 boys, mean age 15.80 years) from Prague basic special schools participated in the research. In order to evaluate the attitude towards physical education and sport a non-standardized questionnaire was used.
The survey demonstrated that pupils quite enjoy physical education. Pupils from basic practical schools preferred sports games, while pupils from basic special schools surprisingly prefer warm-up exercises.
The research was not able to confirm even a small interest from special school pupils in physical activities during their free time. Physical education in schools is the only place where the majority of pupils with intellectual disabilities can find their locomotive self-realization.
This is why curricula should give sunstantial effort towards physical education.
