Jiří Levý's observation concerning the double function in translation holds true also for the translation of works written within the paradigm of Translation Studies. In the receiving culture, it is a "distinguishing element", contributing to its internal differentiation and conceptual enrichment.
On the international scale, it can contribute to the methodological diversification of this discipline on the one hand, and exert a unifying, standardising influence on the other.
