Implementation of the rights of children with intellectual disabilities in the Czech Republic after twenty years since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UN

Abstract

Even after twenty years from the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, (UN, 1991) children with intellectual disabilities remain particularly vulnerable to abuse, negative stereotypes, segregation in education, social services, poor quality and worse access to health care in the Czech Republic as well as reviewed in the other twenty European countries. Identified causes lie mainly in ongoing public apathy about topics related to children with intellectual disabilities and their families, which has not become to be a subject of an extensive public discussion yet.
