The monograph concentrates on the classical Czech children book Fireflies by Jan Karafiát (1876) and its integration to the Czech cultural contexts from its appearance to 2010. The monographs documents the way, in which the spreading of the text in the wider cultural consciousness and children reading was from the very beginning influenced by cultural political attitudes and directive political pressure, relating to education, explores the period critical response, period illustrations, various versions, theatre and film adaptations, musical works inspired by the text, and, finally the translations of the text.
