The article analyzes "essence" of a Central Europa city in modernist novels, such as The Trial (Franz Kafka), The Golem (Gustav Meyrink), Ferdydurke (Witold Gombrowicz), Cinnamon Shops (Bruno Schulz, Radetzky March (Joseph Roth).
