The submitted study deals with the analysis and evaluation of an assemblage of finds and their contextual links, which were obtained during rescue excavations carried out in the cadastral area of Krbice near Chomutov in 1994-2002. These excavations, which were led by Z.
Smrž of the Institute for Archaeological Heritage of Northwest Bohemia, were caused by advancing surface brown coal mining on the outskirts of the Nástup Tušimice Mines. In the area investigated by archaeological methods, there was discovered a multi-period settlement complex.
Approximately 25 ha of its original extent were documented. This prehistoric settlement with distinct evidence of Neolithic activities was included, because of its great importance, into a broadly conceived research project focusing on the investigation of the Hutná brook microregion (Smrž - Kuna - Káčerik 2011).
One of the aims of this study was to gain, through an analysis of field documentation of excavation situations, collections of finds, and the general vector plan, a closer understanding of the general settlement structure with regard to the natural conditions in this microregion.
