Abstract
This essay discusses ways in which Mozart's work and life have been portrayed in the media and political discourse in the year of 250th anniversary of his birth in light of recent sociological and musicologist literature. Furthermore, it contains a brief interpretation and criticism of Norbert Elias' late work "Mozart.
